Two days’ workshop with STEM teachers was carried out. There were STEM teachers with different background: Scientix Ambassadors, teachers with best STEM practices in the country from teachers’ competitions and teachers with very low knowledge about Scientix. The main idea is that they can share and learn from each other in order to create quality learning materials.
At the beginning of the workshop short presentation (15 minutes) was given to the participants elaborating the role, support and resources provided by Scientix. Activities implemented by Friends of Education as National Contact Point so far were presented, too. The participants were introduced with the future planned activities and learned lessons from the activities so far like good cooperation among STEM teachers and raised interest in Scientix. After that Scientix Ambassadors and their achievements were promoted. Individual presentations of good STEM practices by participants were conducted. They presented different applied tools in the teaching process, teaching materials, learning scenarios, case studies etc. On this way interesting innovative approaches were shared and the teachers had the possibility to learn from each other.
On the second part of the workshop teachers were divided in groups according to the subject that they teach. The idea was in each of the groups to have experienced and less experienced teachers concerning Scientix which will work together on adopting materials from Scientix Repository. Teachers were working in groups, search different resources from Scientix Repository and adopted them on national context. Together they have created lesson plans, different kind of teaching materials and assessment lists concerning STEM education. Those created materials were on Macedonian language, so they can be used by every teacher in Macedonia.
Each group present created materials and discussions about them were carried out. Teachers agreed that they need more meetings like this, where they can share ideas, good practices and will discuss about STEM education and how to improve it in Macedonia.
