THE INTERCULTURAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD (IAA) Project “Plastic Orchestra” – Movement for Plastic-Free Schools (SPEM: School Plastic Free Movement)

The project “Plastic Orchestra” – Movement for Plastic-Free Schools (SPEM: School Plastic Free Movement), implemented by the NGO “Friends of Education” and the primary school “Zhivko Brajkovski” from the Butel municipality in Skopje, has been awarded the prestigious Intercultural Achievement Award (IAA), presented by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Intercultural Achievement Award (IAA). This prestigious recognition is granted by the working group “Dialogue of Cultures” within the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (https://www.facebook.com/Aussenministerium). An independent jury selects the winners from over 350 project applications from around the world. The award is given to innovative projects from the non-governmental sector that successfully support and promote intercultural communication and cooperation across various fields. Awards are presented in seven categories: Sustainability, Recent Events, Innovation, Technology, Media, and Special Prizes for Integration and Best Austrian Project.

We are honored to announce that the project “Plastic Orchestra” – Movement for Plastic-Free Schools (SPEM: School Plastic Free Movement) of the NGO “Friends of Education” and the primary school “Zhivko Brajkovski” has been selected as the winner in the Sustainability category. The award ceremony will be held on October 10, 2023, in Vienna, in the presence of the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Schallenberg, and the Minister for Women, Family, Integration, and Media. Representatives of the association, teachers Elena Apostoloska and Hava Saracini, will accept the award.
